dirtypiratewhores.com – Yeah for Schadenfreude! (In Your Face Since 2007!)

finally saw it last night
and liked a lot
i remember i posted the trailer a while ago and when ‘farb and i were out drinking that night he said (and i paraphrase) “you know that guy was a cunt, right?”

and having seen the movie, i can get that
he did totally fuck off without any regard for anyone else
with a drive that (according to the movie)
was not only fueled by a love for nature
but a strong aversion to society’s trappings
and deep deep pychological issues with his relationship with his family
at every turn leaving people connected to him behind

regardless, it strikes a chord
especially with me, since much of my upbringing prior to 7 was like that
we drove and lived in cars and built houses around us in the rain
pooped in buckets and slept in shacks
so the idea of just leaving everything
and taking nothing but your own resourcefulness
really appeals to me

anyhoo
i found a blog of some people who lived near to the magic bus that mccandless spent time in
and they did the trek
it’s pretty cool
sean penn had a whole team of people to make this place look as spectacular as possible
so you never know what the reality might have been
but you can see just from this bloggers photo’s
that it was an absolutely beautiful place that mccandless stumbled upon
