Maury Chaykin Passes Away on 61st Birthday

Canadian film and television actor Maury Chaykin passed away today in a Toronto hospital on his 61st birthday. Born in New York to an American father and Canadian mother, Chaykin made his way to Toronto in the ’70s, where he remained for the rest of his life, amassing a myriad of roles, Genie nominations for Iron Eagle II and Cold Comfort, and a win for 1994’s Whale Music.

Boasting an impressive 153 film and television credits, Chaykin was known in and out of the land of the maple leaf. In Canada, he graced a number of Atom Egoyan films including The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica, and Where the Truth Lies, he teamed up with Don McKellar (who recently lost wife Tracy Wright) on Blindness and Cooking with Stella, and more recently played Sam Blecher in the Mark McKinney-produced Less Than Kind. But his accomplishments and impact reached stateside features as well. Chaykin played Major Fambrough in Dances with Wolves, Sam Tipton in My Cousin Vinny, and in recent years, he played “Harvey Weingard” — aka “Harvey Weinstein” — in Entourage.

Maury, you will be missed.

How did I Miss This?

Friday, April 16th, 2010 by josa

wow
and over a month ago
sheesh

i worked with derek a couple of times
and he was a wonderful guy
calmly british
whenever he came in he would say “‘ello, love”
in that way that means “hello, lovely”
it would always make me smile

one of my favorite derek stories is from nixon
he and derek were talking about different brits
and derek at length started explaining how “limey” came from the british sailors sucking limes
to which nixon responded: “so how is it you are cockney, then?”

i guess that is not so much a story about derek as nixon
but i guess the point is that, even while they were working together
derek had a wicked sense of humour

my favorite memory is that, even though i was a p.a. on the job
and years his junior
derek insisted that i take the passenger seat in the cube van we were giving him a ride home in
he had to balance himself in a half-apple between our seats
what an absolute gentlman

my heart goes out to joanna
and i am thinking of her and her family at this difficult time

oh, yeah..and why should you care about derek van lint?
because he only d.o.p.’d motherfucking alien!

When I get Old, I am never Getting out of Bed (and subsequently never Dying)

The last surviving member of a group who helped to shelter Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis in Amsterdam died last night.

Miep Gies, the woman who rescued Anne’s diary after the family was arrested in 1944, died at a Dutch nursing home aged 100 after suffering a fall.

Mrs Gies and several other employees of Anne’s father provided food and other necessities to the Jewish family while they hid in a concealed apartment.

Mrs Gies became an ambassador for the diary, travelling to talk about Anne and campaigning against Holocaust denial. Speaking last year as she celebrated her 100th birthday, Mrs Gies played down her role, saying others had done far more to protect Jews in the Netherlands.

HOLY SHIT!

Sunday, December 20th, 2009 by josa

“i’ll never tell” is dead!
i cannot believe that!

if we had all gone into that deadpool that t.bone wanted us to
i don’t think she would have been on any of our lists
holy cokeballs! she was only 32!

Actress Britney Murphy has died at the age of 32. A Los Angeles hospital spokeswoman is confirming the death, after inital unconfirmed reports from gossip websites. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Spokeswoman Sally Stewart says Murphy died at 10:04 a.m. Saturday. She would not provide a cause of death, or any other information.

Websites say she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, later dying in hospital. Murphy’s manager, agent and publicist haven’t yet commented on the reports.

not to speak ill of the dead
but she struck me as one of those girls that hollywood crushed
sweet little, possibly a bit crazy, thing
that just went bust under the machine
didn’t get the roles anymore, started pulling a tara reid
then married her dad
..i am probably wrong..but it’s still sad
she was good in “don’t say a word” and “clueless” and “sin city”
but her best movie was “spun”
you should check it out
